My teachers always say that my structure is C*** and my essay does not flow. I do write a plan and spend about 5 mins during the essay planning the whole thing..

How can I improve?

In your first paragraph you list all of the supporting items that go with your topic. You want to have at least three. Then each paragraph is made from one supporting item that you elaborate on. Your final paragraph should be your conclusion where you sum up everything you talked about and basically reiterate your main supporting items. Try to use different words so your essay doesn't sound repetitive. There are a lot of online thesauruses that are free.

honestly, you shouldn’t do that, because as a high schooler, I have been told countless times to never summarize what you will be writing about- it is likely because it may lead you to using pronouns in a sentence such as “I will be showing you how…” or such. Maybe ask a teacher, if you find it extremely important to include that sentence, otherwise, i’d completely avoid it, so you do not get point deductions, and can get a good grade. I am really mad because i have to do this essay thing and it has to be really long and the topic is really retarded…idk wtf i am gonna do because i have no clue how to even start this thing and i can't use the ones for free on the internet,so why do they post that sh.it anyways i mean if you can't use them so wtf?

The teacher cannot give you a zero, unless she knows you did not do it. That saying "I will look on the internet to see if you done it." That's a lie to scare the students, my teachers used it with me and I got the free essay. I got a 95%.

english is my second language and being in high school makes it hard for me to write essays and stuff. Please help?

i do try using thesaurs bt its jsut that if i use thesaurs for everyword then it wn't sound much natural!

Use a thesaurus, but not for every word. It does help to use the bigger words, because you can get better credit. I suggest just writing your essay how you would normally write it, and then go back to where you need more description. Then take out your thesaurus and exchange a few words here and there. Don't do it too much though, because as you said, it wouldn't sound natural. Good luck!

I hate always having to write an essay from a "on-the-spot" topic such as with standarize tests. You never know what it is before hand, so you have to be prepared to write just about anything but write it very well.

How can I improve on these methods? Whenever I do a class research essay, I ace it but on essays with standarize testing or exams, I do poorly if the prompts are on the spot…..

practice your essay writing on random subjects, for example when watching tv or listening to the radio, practice alot … Good Luck=)
