It’s one of those essay contests where I have to write 100 words or less on why I should get picked,etc, except it’s to receive a walk on role for a movie. But I was wondering what are the mistakes to avoid and tips I could use?

Have a clever opener and a funny closing…use short 10-15 word sentences ..don’t go crazy with caps or punctuation. Don’t use obscure language. Be sure you have spelled and punctuated correctly….Good luck, I hope you win!

It seems as though every college has a different set - so a student ends up writing several different ones during the application process. Then - many of the scholarships require essays, too…You’d think they could stick to one or two topics and be done with it.

I need essays that will give me different examples of the different types of horses and how to explain them.

The book "Horses and Horsemanship" by M.E. Messinger is very factual and informative. It gives detailed info on most American breeds of horses. The books published in Great Britian confuse Walking horses with Saddlebreds and Standardbreds with Morgans and so on. It also has examples of the 3 riding styles most often used in the U.S.A. Western, Hunt Seat, and Saddle Seat.

It does say how many words it should be or anything, so is there a rule-of-thumb for how long i should make the essays?

For college applications make it around 250-300 words. Just make sure you dont go over like 300, you will totally bore the reader. I know that theres too much to write and 300 words is too little, but try to condense your writing and use big words to make it sound more lively and interesting. The important thing is to make it as interesting as possible and get your point across without putting in fillers or boring the reader.

I’ve always hated essays, studying and exams, they never seem to go away. Do you think essays and exams should exist? If not, then what could be done to make them better, also so more people pass with the grades they deserve?

Do you find them annoying?

What I dislike about exams is that you can never stop studying. Unlike homework, where when you’re done with homework, you’re done with it. You really never know when you’re done studying.

Even though I don’t like studying and exams, I feel having them is a good way to test your knowledge on a subject.

Where can I find various collections of essays online to improve my reading comprehension skills? I'm looking for essays that are quite short but where I can find essays on various topics to read… help!
