I am in the process of writing an English essay commenting on a particular chapter in the book we are currently studying. I have to explain how the chapter is made tense and dramatic.
Can anyone give me any tips as to how to start my essay, how to generally write it and how to end my essay?
I don't want it done for me, just need some tips.
Thanks in advance.
Hi M — First, identify 2 or 3 factors that make the chapter dramatic/tense.
First paragraph — introduce your ideas… "this chapter is tense and dramatic because…"
Second paragraph — go into detail about the first thing. Provide examples
Third/fourth paragraph - same thing with your other factors
Last paragraph - wrap it up. Summarize what you just wrote about. "The author used…. to make the reader feel…"

It does say how many words it should be or anything, so is there a rule-of-thumb for how long i should make the essays?
For college applications make it around 250-300 words. Just make sure you dont go over like 300, you will totally bore the reader. I know that theres too much to write and 300 words is too little, but try to condense your writing and use big words to make it sound more lively and interesting. The important thing is to make it as interesting as possible and get your point across without putting in fillers or boring the reader.
Good luck and hope that helps

I’ve been trying and trying to find a good source of information in how to structure a good essay, specially for the integrated writing essay of the TOEFL exam, but no luck.
Plz post some free sites or Information regarding this matter.
Thanks in advance
It's not that easy to find much free preparation material online (though there are a number of books and courses available) but hopefully the links below will help you. Part of the reason that there might not be much detailed info for free on the web is that it appears the writing portion would just follow the form of typical essay, (thesis/introduction, body/supporting points, conclusion) and if you follow the basics, and put in some time and effort, you should do very well.

I’ve always hated essays, studying and exams, they never seem to go away. Do you think essays and exams should exist? If not, then what could be done to make them better, also so more people pass with the grades they deserve?
Do you find them annoying?
What I dislike about exams is that you can never stop studying. Unlike homework, where when you’re done with homework, you’re done with it. You really never know when you’re done studying.
Even though I don’t like studying and exams, I feel having them is a good way to test your knowledge on a subject.

I have 3 essays to write for school and im really stressed, any tips??
by the way the essays are for RE, Science, AND English =/
Oh I hated essays…
When I am familiar with the topic, I start somewhere in the middle of the essay. I just pick the first piece of information that comes to mind about the topic and start there or even just type out a conversation with myself asking questions and responding. From there, I flesh out other points, and I can see what else needs to be added. Towards the end, I'm reorganizing the points I'm making, seeing if there's an idea that needs to be explained more, and fine-tuning the language. What stresses me out is I don't know where to start and I get overwhelmed by the thought of having to explain a giant prompt and body of information, so this strategy works well for me.
If I'm not familiar with the topic, I sit down with all my resources and take notes on interesting things about the topic and see if I can't organize the notes into a cohesive paper. Then, again, I just pick whichever subtopic I feel like writing about most and start there. After all, by then I already have an outline to keep me on track and to show me the big picture.
As for handling three essays, it's the same idea. An essay alone is so big I can't start writing. I break it down and just start writing about something relevant, a little part. The important thing is to work on a small enough scale so you don't get overwhelmed, and just glance at the big picture to keep yourself on track. And, for three essays, just keep writing. Eventually writing 5 pages at a time seems pretty short.
Hope this helps!
